Red Inkworks Cult Movie Page

Devoted to the best of the "B" movies and some of the best cult movies of all time.

THE WORLD OF CULT MOVIES

1000 Misspent Hours and Counting:  A site promising to be the only movie review site that is aimed at wrong-thinking. Interesting and full of it's own special charm.

Agony Booth, The:  Is an ongoing inquisition into some of the worst movies humanity has to offer, and is not for the weak of spirit or the easily disheartened. However, if you think you have the fortitude to completely immerse yourself in a truly awful film, withstanding in-depth commentary and analysis, then the Agony Booth is the place for you.

Alternative Cinema:  Dedicated to the enjoyment of independent and underground movies that range from the brilliant to the bizarre and everything in between.

And You Thought It Was Safe:  A website of movie reviews and pseudo-philosophical thoughts by David DeMoss.

Astounding "B" Monster, The:   Devoted to the triumphs and follies of arcane cinema as realized in the monster movie. Data base information in easy to navigate categories.

Atomic Monsters:  Reviews of the cheesiest B-movie science fiction films of the atomic age, including photos.

B-Independent:  On-line cult film entertainment. News, reviews, interviews and much more.

B-Notes:  By pure definition, a B movie is a cheaply produced movie.  The expression used to mean either a movie made by a major studio without the studio's full support or a movie made by an intentionally minor production company.  The result was usually a "generic movie."  Since then, the term has been broadened to include any movie that was cheaply made, especially if the low budget limited the production to noticeably shoddy material and poor craftsmanship.  This is not to imply that all B movies are, by their inexpensive nature, inferior imitations of superior products, but it does mean they are rarely taken seriously by an audience that is into conspicuous consumption.

Bad Cinema Diary:  Is an illustrated video guide to over 1400 B-movies, independents, and micro-budget films from all genres and eras. You won't find reviews here of the latest Hollywood mega-buck pictures; but if your tastes run towards the likes of Robot Monster and Terror at Orgy Castle, welcome to the Bad Cinema Diary.

Bad Movie Planet:  Bad movies reviewed and ridiculed.

BadMovies.Org:  Welcome b-movie fan. Here is a safe place to indulge in your more unsavoury cinematic tastes. You watch them after family members go to bed, your significant other (hey, it is a bold new world) screws up their face in disgust every time you linger over Cool as Ice, once a friend even hit you for renting something really awful. That is all going to change now. Here is a website where you can read reviews, talk with other b-movie fans, and glorify the genre.

Bad Movie Report, The:  In their own words...'Let's face it - we love crap!'

Beyond Hollywood:  Much, much more than your average review site.  Red Inkworks Recommended.

Blade-Runner.Info:  Learn about Rep's and what makes them tick.

Bleeding Skull:  Spooky trash from beyond the grave.

Bloodshot Eye, The:  Reputed to be the best reviewer in Memphis?

Braineater:  You want to read a review of the original Gamera that includes transcriptions of its incidental music and a sidebar explaining how giant Japanese monsters get named? Then Will Laughlin is your man.

Brian's Drive-In Theater:  The Drive-In has thousands of photos and lots of information about your favourite 'B' movie actors from the 1930s through the 1980s.

BRMovie.com:  This site is dedicated to fans of Blade Runner. It is intended to be the home of all contributors to the Usenet newsgroup alt.fan.blade-runner and of course, anybody browsing the web is also welcome.

B-Movie Central:  Is simply one of the best on the web. Duane types up his own reviews - complete with screen shots of the characters and a movie clip.

Canuxploitation:  Since 1999, Canuxploitation.com has been navigating the murky world of Canadian "exploitation" cinema. With articles and reviews that shamelessly delve into the best and worst of every neglected genre of Canuck film, this site investigates and reclaims Canada's lost B-movie tradition with style and humour.

Classic Movies:  A main destination for fans of classic Hollywood films, actors, actresses, and directors, with almost a thousand pages of annotated links lists, tribute articles, and other material, plus a forum, weekly newsletter, and other community resources.

Coffee Films: Creating films since 1996; welcome to the award winning British independent film production company Coffee Films.

Cold Fusion Video:  A site that rivals badmovies.org for cool, with highly distinctive layouts, a couple of neat gimmicks, and pages devoted to such unexpected strangeness as pictorial souvenir phone cards from Japan. Good reviews, too.

Combustible Celluloid:  More reviews, interviews, and essays on Combustible Celluloid... and a pretty good Cult Movie page.

Cult Movie Archives:  Just as the name implies....large listing of some of the best cult movies made.

Cult Movie Reviews:  Reviewing all kinds of movies, specializing on obscure movies, cult films, foreign movies, plus index of cult directors.

Cult Movies Webring:  Cult movies have tremendous followings with certain groups, e.g., college campuses, midnight movie crowds, etc. Camp films are cult-type movies, but they are often poorly made or ludicrous, yet still enjoyable and appreciated. Cult movies follow no rules or pattern - some cult movies are popular only among certain limited groups of audiences or friends...so you might as well circle the ring!

Daily Grindhouse, The:  Bustin' up the interwebs with trashy cinema while drinkin' a vodka tonic.

Dungeon, The:  This site has it all: reviews, recipes, stories, and reader interaction! Check it out.

Doomed Moviethon:  Is dedicated to the bleary-eyed, the caffeine-fueled, and the ridiculously under-slept movie marathon. These reviews and articles are your guide to keep you immersed in an infinite and commercial-free movie marathon.

Eccentric Cinema:  Dedicated to cult movies.  These flicks run the gamut from Z-grade schlock to trend-setting milestones, big budget curiosities and films which have developed a "cult" following. Action, fantasy, horror, sci-fi, exploitation, martial arts — the cult film spectrum is diverse. In these pages you'll find the latest DVD (and even a few VHS) movie reviews, free audio and video downloads (including posters, WAVs, MP3s and video clips), plus links to the best cult movie sites.

Exploitation Retrospect:  Your source for no-holds-barred reviews from the world of horror, gore, exploitation and drive-in movies since 1986. Stay on top of the latest news and additions to the site with their free e-newsletter.

Film Asylum, The:  Was founded in September 2001 with a single intension, to bring genre cinema out of the shadows and thrust it under the nose of every movie loving Internet user.

Ghoul Next Door, The:  My name is Kyra Schon and I appeared as the cellar dwelling, trowel wielding, mother stabbing, father's arm eating zombie girl Karen Cooper in the original 1968 Night of the Living Dead. I grew up watching and loving horror movies and I realize how fortunate I was to be a part of horror-film history; it has truly been one of the highlights of my life.

Girls, Guns and Ghouls:  "There's only one thing in this whole crummy, square-infested life that counts. Kicks! Kicks, Jim, Kicks. Dig me? They have seen all the illusions in my creature emporium, but they have yet to face the greatest illusion: the illusion of reality."  (If that wonderful piece of cinematic dialogue rings a heartfelt chord in your heart, this website may well be somewhere for you to spend some time.)

Homepage of the Dead:  Dedicated to the films of George A. Romero.

Joe Bob Briggs Report:  Official site of Joe Bob Briggs, drive-in movie critic extraordinaire.

Lost Highway:  Is a desolate road trip through the backwoods of b-movies and cult films. At Lost Highway the roadside stops include horror, sci-fi, grindhouse and cult films from the 70’s and 80’s as well as new films deemed worthy of the b-movie title.

Million Monkey Theater:  Promising to make you laugh and cringe at the same time.

Movies at Midnight:  Brings you informative reviews and news tidbits from the world of horror and cult cinema. Ryan Midnight also does freelance work for gorezone.net, screemag.com, geeksofdoom.com and cujou.com.

PulpMovies.com:  Bringing cult, classic, bad and bizarre films to audiences who should know better.

Razor Reel:  A look into the "weird and wonderful world" of exploitation movies and television shows, this is part of BillyBop, a roots music site out of Belgium. Look for material on campy, gory, adult, sleazy or musical films from the early days, rock & roll and teenage juvenile movies from the fifties, Sci-Fi flicks or pasta porn from the sixties, Euro thrash from the seventies, eighties slashers, etc.

Rocky Horror Picture Show, The:   What would a page devoted to cult movies be without a reference to RHPS.

Ronnie Cramer's Cult Film Site:  Sure, it's a site that sells movies, but don't let that stop you from reading his blurbs on some of cult's greatest films.

Rogue Reviewers, The:  Are a select group of B-Movie review sites that are dedicated to bringing you reviews of some of the best...and worst B-Movies ever made.

Shock Cinema:  An essential guide for any fan of bizarre films and videos, and each issue is crammed with movie reviews and original poster art. Plus, Shock Cinema covers everything a self-respecting film-junkie could possibly desire -- from Cult Movies and Art House Oddities, to old fashioned Drive-In Swill and Underground Obscurities.

Spinning Image, The:  Large database of cult movies.

Teleport City:  The Teleport City boys also take on much more than movies; look in the right place, and you'll find book reviews, record reviews, and tales of high adventure in exotic locales like Japan and Florida. Plus, they've got a healthy affection for Diana Rigg.

Thrillville:  Is a City of B Movie Dreams in a State of Culture Shock, where Time stands still and aesthetics supersede politics; where monsters, babes, hipsters and swingers mingle and mate over martinis and Mai Tais; where Style rules over Fashion, where Elvis is King, the Rat Pack rules.

William Girdler.com:  Though largely ignored by mainstream film buffs, and sorely under-appreciated by trash genre devotees, William Girdler Sr. remains one of Hollywood history's most prolific directors.

Wooden Spoons:  Obscure horror review page.

World of Cult Films, The:  Easily broken down into Films, Actors and Directors.

CULT EXPLOITATION FILMS - HISTORY and COMMENTARY

Doris Wishman:  The films of Doris Wishman may provide the missing link between the worlds of Ed Wood and Russ Meyer.

Flickhead:  Impressive articles covering exploitation cult films...and some of the talent involved.

Not Coming to a Theatre Near You:  Began as a printed column in 1998, was published in varying capacities, and arrived at its current form as this web site (launched in October 2001). If not discerned in its title, this site assumes a bias towards older, often unpopular, and sometimes unknown films that merit a second look.

Zombie Farm, The:
Norman's site offers a comprehensive, excellent and unique look at Dawn of the Dead.

RED INKWORKS CULT MOVIE SELECTIONS

Angel Heart:  1987 Quirky, starring Robert Di Niro, Lisa Bonet and Mickey Rourke. Harry Angel has a new case, to find a man called Johnny Favourite. Except things aren't quite that simple, and Johnny doesn't want to be found. Let's just say that, amongst the period detail and beautiful scenery, it all gets really, really nasty.

Day of The Locust, The:  The film version of  The Day of The Locust (1975, Donald Sutherland, Karen Black) is based on the novel by Nathanael West.  The story is about Hollywood and the American Dream turned sour.  A Hollywood that is not the glam capital "Home of The Stars".  Instead the movie scathingly portrays the world of sham illusion, of lost dreams and morals. The final ten minutes of this excellent movie will make you happy that you did not make that extra-large bowl of popcorn.

Darkness Before The Dawn, The:   An Ingmar Bergman classic. Darkly disturbing, obscure and much maligned by some.

Delicatessen:  In a post-apocalyptic society where food is so rare it's invaluable and used as currency and people eat each other a young clown applies for a job at a local delicatessen. The butcher's intent is to have him work for a little and then serve him to his stranger than normal tenants who pay him in, of course, grain. This clown falls in love with the butcher's daughter who tries to foil her father's plans by contacting the rebels. The rebels are possibly the most sensible of the lot, as they see food as food and not money.

Fountainhead, The:  Individualistic and idealistic architect Howard Roark is expelled from college because his designs fail to fit with existing architectural thinking. He seems unemployable but finally lands a job with like-minded Henry Cameron, however within a few years Cameron drinks himself to death, warning Roark that the same fate awaits unless he compromises his ideals. Roark is determined to retain his artistic integrity at all costs.

Lair of the White Worm, The:  Ken Russell's classic erotic horror movie.

Night of the Living Dead:  (1968) The one that started it all.

Psycho:  1960 Alfred Hitchcock thriller. Arguably the beginning of the 'slasher' sub-genre.

Satan Was A Lady:  Doris Wishman’s twenty eighth feature in a career spanning five decades of vehemently idiosyncratic filmmaking. In this round, Wishman attacks; swinging and slashing to reconfirm her title as Godmother of Motion Picture Pulp and, pound-for-pound, the Baddest Director in the World. Amen!

Strange Days:  Set in the year 1999 during the last days of the old millennium, the movie tells the story of Lenny Nero, an ex-cop who now deals with data-discs containing recorded memories and emotions. One day he receives a disc which contains the memories of a murderer killing a prostitute. Lenny investigates and is pulled deeper and deeper in a whirl of blackmail, murder and rape.
